Beyond the Code: Using AI to Shape Product Strategy

Short description

Here’s a hard truth for many engineers to accept: Building a product requires more than writing great code. Nailing your business model, pricing and packaging, marketing strategy, target audience, and much more is crucial to turning an innovative idea into a sustainable business. Likewise, while much has been written about how AI-assisted coding will shape the future of software engineering, AI-assisted product management has received much less attention. In this talk, we’ll focus on that very topic. I'll share what I learned from using AI to build poketto.me, a save-for-later app with a curated news feed and podcast functionality. However, I won't dwell on AI for engineering. Instead, I'll delve into how AI helped–and sometimes sabotaged–product strategy, go-to-market, and marketing.

Value for the audience:
After attending the talk, audience members will have a better understanding of product management, particularly as it relates to software startups. Furthermore, they will know which aspects of product management can and cannot be handled or supported by today's AI tools.

Problems addressed:
Uncovering the blind spot in how we think about AI's impact on product building – specifically, that the conversation has been overwhelmingly focused on AI-assisted coding while ignoring AI-assisted product management.

Understanding the scope of product management and which facets can be outsourced or augmented by current AI tools.

Learning how to build a product "end to end" (from idea to business), with the help of AI tools, based on a real-world example.
